He has hit more home runs than Shohei Ohtani. He has knocked in more runs per at bat — 19 in 67, that’s 170-RBI pace — than almost anyone in baseball in just six weeks in the big leagues. Schneider is hitting .403 as of Saturday afternoon. Only the red-hot National Leaguers Mookie Betts, Ronald Acuna Jr., and Matt Olson have been better. Betts is hitting .423 through August and September. Acuna has 10 home runs and 25 RBIs in more than twice the at-bats since Schneider’s first plate appearance on Aug. 4. Olson hasn’t stopped slugging.
Before this season, he’d never hit more than 16 home runs in a season. This year, between the Jays and the minor leagues, he has 28.
