Police later obtained a warrant to enter the unit, McIntyre said, and the suspect fired a single shot from a long gun at officers about 7:30 p.m. The officers, whose names won’t be released, suffered serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. One officer remains in serious condition in hospital, the other has been discharged from hospital, McIntyre said.
“At no time were shots fired by our officers, nor were lethal methods used to take him into custody,” she said.. He appeared briefly in court Sunday and was remanded into custody until his next appearance March 20.Ontario’s police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, said it isn’t investigating the incident. The watchdog probes cases of police gunfire, death, serious injury and allegations of sexual assault involving officers.
