The Nets led by 10 points late in the third quarter but for the second straight game ran out of gas in the fourth as they fell to the Thunder, 112-102, at Barclays Center.

The Nets brought a five-point lead into the fourth quarter but saw it wiped away in less than two minutes. “Impressive team,” coach Jacque Vaughn said before the game. “Give the organization, give [coach Mark Daigneault] a ton of credit for what he’s getting out of that group, led by [Gilgeous-Alexander]. His ability to just score the basketball at the end of the day [is impressive]. A bunch of guys that they rotate in and out who are playing with aggression, playing fast, getting downhill, getting into the paint. So a really tough challenge for us tonight.

The Nets got just five points from Irving in the first quarter but only trailed 28-24 after 12 minutes. Seven different players scored for the Nets in the opening quarter as they distributed the ball around the floor, including Edmond Sumner — starting in place of Simmons — dishing out three assists. But Sumner also picked up his third foul late in the first quarter, limiting his minutes the rest of the first half.
