Succession's Shiv Roy isn't the only daughter of a mogul who might be done playing the role of good cop to her father's misogynist cop
In any Greek tragedy, the mighty are inevitably felled by a fatal flaw. And in the #MeToo era, the fatal flaw may turn out to be the daughters., who was promised her dad’s job, CEO of fictitious media-amusement conglomerate Waystar Royco, only to watch it slip through her manicured fingers. But Shiv is not giving up.
“He made me a fucking offer, and I’m going to redeem that coupon,” she said in episode eight of season two. Although Shiv didn’t necessarily “earn” her exalted position in life, she’s certainly made some sacrifices in the name of her father. Likeduring the 2016 presidential race, Siobhan Roy has been dutifully playing what she referred to as “good cop, misogynist cop” to smooth over her father Logan’s rough edges, using her formidable persuasive powers to block a female sexual assault victim from coming forward in episode nine.
There couldn’t be a more perfect moment to root for a dinosaur cull. Lately, when powerful dads run into a problem, they rip a page out of’s playbook and summon their daughters. The Senate majority leader invoked his status “as the father of three daughters” to emphasize how offended he was bytape—as if having multiple daughters was a prerequisite to understanding that grabbing women by the genitals is not okay.
