The latter’s presence was teased since the series’ first episode, and he served as the main villain in the first two seasons of Sherlock.
Moriarty was all about messing with Sherlock, and he knows exactly how to annoy the detective, which is why when Sherlock offers him a chair, Moriarty sits in the one across it. Sherlock is visibly annoyed, but he doesn’t take long to strike back, and when he hands Moriarty his tea, the cup’s handle is on the right side, as Sherlock knew Moriarty was left-handed.
Who Outsmarted Who - Moriarty Or Sherlock Holmes? Jim Moriarty is described as the villainous counterpart of Sherlock Holmes, as his intelligence is at the level of that of the detective, which is why their interactions are so fascinating. Moriarty seemed to have outsmarted Sherlock in “The Reichenbach Fall” as by killing himself he left Sherlock no other choice than to do the same, but Sherlock was actually many steps ahead and he faked his death, saving John and more in the process.
