SheHulk's Titania actor Jameela Jamil opens up about the villain's ambiguous MCU origin story. 'I don’t think Titania has ever been truly evil. I don’t think she’s like a Thanos.'

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law star Jameela Jamil, who portrays main villain Titania, offers hints about her character's origins and motivations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans familiar with the Marvel Comics know the longtime She-Hulk rival Titania as Mary MacPherran, a small and bullied young woman who is offered superpowers by Fantastic Four foe Dr. Doom in exchange for her loyalty. Created by Marvel's Jim Shooter and Mike Zeck and first featured in 1984's Secret Wars No.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In She-Hulk, Titania is introduced very differently from her comics counterpart. Rather than delving into her origins, the series' pilot shows Titania in a brief appearance, barging into a courtroom and immediately battling it out with She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters . The character then appeared again in She-Hulk episode 5, titled "Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans," after an episode 4 tease that she was suing the titular hero.

"Well, [Titania] got [her powers] from Dr. Doom in the version that I know. She was just desperate to have superpowers. I don’t think Titania has ever been truly evil. I don’t think she’s like a Thanos. I think she’s someone who just wanted to be famous and powerful and respected because she wasn’t when she was a kid. And so we don’t get to tell that backstory on this show, because this is [head writer] Jessica Gao’s very 2022 L.A. iteration of Titania that I also love.

Jamil's comments confirm that Titania's MCU origins are still unknown, even by the actor. However, she does reveal that the character's motivations from the comics are still what drives her in the MCU, referring to Titania's insecurities and desire for fame as the bridge connecting the two versions of the villain.

Given Jamil's love for Titania's comics backstory and interest in reprising the role, a potential She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 2 could offer some answers when it comes to the origin of the character's powers in the MCU. Little is known about Titania's MCU future beyond the Disney+ series, but the end of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law may provide clarity about Titania's next move.
