The San Francisco Police Department warned that those who are caught driving impaired can expect consequences to include jail time, as well as several fines and fees totaling more than $10,000
The San Francisco Police Department announced on Friday it will establish checkpoints to keep watch for impaired drivers during St. Patrick'd Day night.
The SFPD said in a statement that its Traffic Unit will conduct DUI saturation patrol checkpoints from Friday 7 p.m. to Saturday 3 a.m., which will be manned by officers looking out for drug and alcohol impairment. "Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20% when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely," according to the SPFD.
The department also said that, when possible, specially trained officers will evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving. According to the SFPD, a study showed more active drivers tested positive for drugs that may impair driving than did for alcohol . Police warned those who are caught driving impaired and arrested for DUI can expect the consequences to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000,"not to mention the embarrassment when friends and family find out."
