SF Giants’ Zack Littell reinstated from IL, Luis Gonzalez optioned to Sacramento

SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants reinstated right-handed pitcher Zack Littell from the IL on Wednesday afternoon and optioned outfielder Luis Gonzalez to make room on the active roster.

“Adding an additional pitcher to the mix, a reliever like Littell, gives us an eight-man ‘pen for the first time in a while,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “It feels protected going forward and it felt like a good time to get Luis going.” “You’re seeing a less aggressive approach to the opposite field,” Kapler said. “While he’s hitting the ball to the opposite field, he’s slapping it over there rather than trying to drive the baseball there and that’s limited his ability to then get the ball in the air to the pull side consistently with power.”
