The Houston takeover followed a similar event in Austin on Feb. 18. Viral video showed cars being raced and doing donuts. Several intersections were blocked to traffic. Officers confiscated four firearms, along with quantities of marijuana and methamphetamine. Numerous arrests have been made in connection to the Austin street takeovers and investigations are ongoing.
The task force will focus on state-level investigations that target the organized crime aspect of the street takeovers with the goal of making arrests and seizing assets, including vehicles and weapons.“Despite the foolish attempts by some local officials to defund and demoralize our brave law enforcement officers, Texas is and remains a law-and-order state,” he wrote. “We must send a clear message that these reckless, coordinated criminal events will not be tolerated in Texas.
