Seven arrested in organised crime sting after alleged murder bids and prison car fires
Seven people have been arrested in an organised crime sting after a spate of violent incidents across Scotland.
Three of the men - aged 32, 30 and 23 - were charged in connection with six prison officers' cars allegedly being torched in the car park of Addiewell HMP on Saturday, January 7. Two days later a blue Ford Focus ST and a dark coloured VW Golf were found burnt out on January 7. Underworld sources claimed the alleged incident was the result of a new gang war in the capital.
While four men, 30, 32, 23 and 23 - and a 16-year-old male youth - were arrested and charged in connection with a further attempted murder on Monday, January, 23. Detective Chief Inspector Mark Petrie, Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism, said: “Today demonstrates our commitment to tackling violence in our communities and apprehending those involved.
Superintendent Mark Rennie, who is responsible for operational policing within Edinburgh, said: “These arrests reinforce our determination to target those involved in violence and organised crime.
