Seth Meyers took the Fox News host to task on Tuesday night
“The Republicans keep sinking lower. They hit rock bottom a while ago, but in the last 24 hours they have gotten out the blasting caps and they are fracking America’s moral bedrock.”
Vindman, the director of European Affairs at the National Security Council, testified that he was listening to Trump’s Ukraine call from the Situation Room. Vindman completed multiple tours as part of the U.S. Army, including a combat tour in Iraq, for which he received a Purple Heart after being injured by a roadside bomb. “I think it’s fair to say that unlike Donald Trump, Vindman’s character is unimpeachable,” Colbert said.
“Hey, Laura Ingraham,” Meyers said, “you’re attacking a decorated veteran to protect Donald Trump? Who do you think you are, Donald Trump? And by the way, yes, Colonel Vindman immigrated from Ukraine when he was three. Nobody even remembers where they were when they were three with the possible exception of you. I’m sure when you were three you were already at Saks Fifth Avenue making a salesperson cry.
“And, hey,” Meyers added, addressing both Ingraham and Duffy, “you guys think he’s putting Ukraine over America because he speaks Ukrainian? It might actually be helpful to speak the language of the nation you’re dealing with. Imagine how much better things would be doing here if this guy spoke English.” The man on the screen at that point was, of course, our very own president.
