Chloe Ortiz's service dog Kinley has gotten her through some difficult times. Now he's a semifinalist for the American Human Hero Dog Award.
PUBLISHED 9:24 PM CDT Jun. 18, 2022AUSTIN, Texas — For Austin resident Chloe Ortiz, life as someone who is both blind and autistic isn’t easy.Thanks to her four-legged friend, Kinley, there’s plenty to smile about.The connection between her and her guide dog the past five and a half years goes beyond words. However, as a writer, the 27-year-old felt the need to put them down anyway.
Her story has moved the canine community, and now the service-trained golden lab is one of 21 semifinalists for the American Humane Hero Dog Awards.A true guide in every sense of the word, not only has Kinley helped Chloe with her day-to-day needs, but also through the darkest of times after she was sexually assaulted by a close friend.
