Alberta court increased McKnight\u0027s sentence for raping multiple women from eight years to 11, calling initial sentence \u0022demonstrably unfit.\u0022

“While the trial judge sought to avoid a sentence that was too harsh, the totality reduction resulted in a sentence that is lenient to the point of undermining public confidence in the administration of justice,” the panel wrote.

McKnight assaulted the women between 2010 and 2016 when he was a promoter with Urban Sparq Hospitality, drumming up business for now-defunct nightclubs including Knoxville’s Tavern and The Old Strathcona Rack.Article content Eventually, around a dozen of those women came forward claiming McKnight had raped them. He eventually went to trial on 13 counts and after 63 days of testimony and arguments was convicted of five of the rapes.
