Multiple GOP senators indicated their chamber is secondary in debt limit talks, and the House GOP majority is the one pressing for spending cuts in a deal with Biden.

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., speaks during a press conference following a luncheon with Senate Republicans in the U.S. Capitol Building May 2, 2023, in Washington, D.C. But in the White House and the Democratically-held Senate, Biden and Schumer have insisted they will not pair spending cut talks with raising the debt ceiling, insisting on a"clean" increase in the borrowing limit.
While he accepted Biden’s invitation for the May 9 meeting, McConnell said,"It should be clear to the administration that the Senate isn’t a relevant player this time."
