Sen. Mike Rounds demurred Sunday when pressed on whether he would vote for Donald Trump if the former president is convicted on any of the criminal charges against him in four separate cases.
“I’m hoping, truly, that we get to the point where I don’t have to make that type of a decision,” the South Dakota Republican said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I was there on January 6, I saw what happened. I’m not happy about what happened. I was not happy with his performance on that particular day.”
Mr. Rounds has endorsed fellow GOP Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina in the presidential primary and has been criticized by Mr. Trump for rejecting his claims about the 2020 election being stolen.“We don’t know. That’s one of the concerns that a lot of people have got. Me as well,” he said. “It’s the reason why I think if we bring in a uniter, rather than a divider, I think we’ve got a better shot at doing what’s right for this country long term.
