Pam & Tommy star, Sebastian Stan, says he spoke to Tommy Lee about the upcoming Hulu series: '[Lee] seemed touched and appreciative that I took the time to even reach out and connect.'
The makers of Pam & Tommy still haven't heard from the real-life Pamela Anderson, but actor Sebastian Stan did get a chance to speak with Tommy Lee about the upcoming Hulu series. The show stars Lily James as the Baywatch actress and Stan as the drummer of Mötley Crüe, chronicling the couple's high-profile romance and eventual leaked sex tape that sparked a controversial media frenzy in the 1990s.
The hype behind Pam & Tommy is partly due to the uncharacteristic casting of James and Stan. They are better known for playing more upstanding characters like Disney's Cinderella and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Bucky Barnes . But the overall concept of Pam & Tommy has also received its brunt of criticism, particularly from Anderson's friend, singer Courtney Love.
Ahead of the show's premiere, however, Stan, James, and the rest of the creative team behind Pam & Tommy seem to be reiterating that the show has no intention of demonizing the couple. Instead, they say, the show is meant to critique the media and cultural response toward celebrities' private lives. Whether or not Pam & Tommy holds up to its promises is yet to be seen and will likely be up to the individual viewer's interpretation.
