A stabbing left a woman in critical condition Monday night and put the normally sleepy college town of Davis in Northern California on edge. It is the third stabbing in a week,A massive downtown search was underway Tuesday morning for a light-skinned man with curly hair, after the woman was stabbed through her tent in a homeless encampment near Second and L streets. The suspect was last seen running west on 3rd Street from L Street and is still at large, police said.until further notice.

A passerby called in a report of an unresponsive man on a bench in Central Park, less than half a mile from Monday’s stabbing. First responders discovered the deceased man had been stabbed repeatedly.

The suspect, 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, has been at large since the shooting just before midnight Friday in the rural town of Cleveland. By Sunday evening, authorities said more than 250 officers from multiple jurisdictions have joined the manhunt and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put up $50,000 in reward money for tips leading to Oropeza’s capture. Police recovered the AR-15-style rifle that they said Oropeza used in the shootings. Authorities were not sure if he was carrying another weapon.
