The Prime Minister said the investment in the Cromarty Firth would allow young people to 'fulfil their dreams and ambitions' without leaving home

He replied: “I completely believe that’s what it will do. I represent a very rural area in the north of England, and I say the same thing: We don’t want our young people to have to leave home to fulfil all their dreams and ambitions. “That’s why, if we can bring the investment and the jobs and the opportunity to them, that’s what levelling up should be about, and that’s what freeports do.
“It is really inspiring to see how everyone here has reacted to it this morning. We were talking to some young people who had finished their training course are already out working, and they’re all so pumped up because of what it’s going to mean for them and their colleagues and their friends and their neighbours.”
The announcement was welcomed by the Scottish Government, with Deputy First Minister John Swinney saying they could make a “significant contribution” to hitting net zero emission targets.’s government partners the Greens criticised the plans, saying that freeports were a “failed and dated Tory gimmick which hands public cash to multinational corporations”.
