Prosecutors claim Ross Muir, 37, violated his responsibility 'to prevent and detect crime'

The trial of a police officer accused of neglecting his duties has been postponed. Ross Muir allegedly failed to investigate a crime and then lied to colleagues to cover his tracks. Prosecutors claim he violated his responsibility "to prevent and detect crime" by not probing an assault allegation.

The Police Scotland officer denies breaking Section 22 of the Police and Fire Reform Act 2012. Prosecutors claim that, in June 2020, he failed "to conduct an investigation" into claims a man named Connor Dawson carried out an assault. It's claimed the alleged attack took place in Ferguslie Park Avenue, Paisley, Renfrewshire, on June 7, 2020

And it's claimed he didn't "designate any other officer of the Police Service of Scotland to note a statement from them". Court papers allege he failed to gather evidence and CCTV footage relating to the alleged assault and also failed to note the "full details of the criminal allegations" against Dawson.
