“When we first started the program, even to get 100 kids, was like pulling teeth. It was inviting your friends and team.

Visibility is key and we need more.Article content “But I’m also a big believer that if they’re not having fun at this age, by 16, 17 and 18 they’re not going to survive.However, climbing the competitive ladder can bring an added level of complexity. Devoted parents see the growth and that can promote year-round involvement in hockey, instead of playing several sports to improve other skills and not lose that love of the game.Article content

Annie Bates, 10, of Coquitlam has a competitive drive and is looking to build her game. She first skated at age five, started playing last year, but has some definite goals.
