Scientists propose using quasiparticles to create light sources as powerful as the most advanced ones in existence today, but much smaller.

A collaborative effort from researchers at multiple institutions in different parts of the world has led to the development of the idea of using quasiparticles as sources of super bright light, according to a newly published study inThe light sources would be much smaller than contemporary ones but generate equally powerful light.

Quasiparticles can be formed by electrons moving in sync, where they can travel at speeds faster than light and even withstand extreme forces such as those near a black hole. Quasiparticles are neither independent structures that hold their own in free space like neutrons or even molecules, nor do they fit the standard model like an electron. However, they have fundamental properties like charge or a spin but do not necessarily have the same mass as the particle.
