Scientists can make high resolution images of the human spinal cord during surgery with the help of functional ultrasound imaging (fUSI) technology. This advancement could provide relief to millions suffering from chronic back pain . A study published in a journal demonstrates how fUSI worked for six patients undergoing electrical stimulation for back pain treatment.

The fUSI scanner is portable and eliminates the need for extensive infrastructure associated with classical neuroimaging techniques
