Scarlet Spider is a character that hasn't been explored in the live-action Spider-Man movies yet, and one cosplay proves why that's been a mistake.
There has been no shortage of Spider-Man movies in recent years–from the classic early 2000s Sam Raimi trilogy to the modern-day Spider-Verse saga–but even with all those incarnations, there is still room for the evil Spider-Man to take center-stage on the big screen, and one Scarlet Spider cosplay proves it.
Scarlet Spider aka Ben Reilly is the clone of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man who was created by the Jackal way back in 1963’s Amazing Spider-Man #149. By the end of the storyline started in the ‘60s, Spider-Man’s evil clone was seemingly killed, and that plot thread was finished. However, it would later be revealed at the start of the ‘90s’ Clone Saga that Spider-Man’s clone survived his battle with Spider-Man back in the ‘60s, and has been traveling the country, trying to find his purpose in life.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Spider-Man Cosplay Brings Kaine Parker’s Scarlet Spider to Life In an Instagram post by user Kaine Parker , the cosplayer is pictured dressed in a perfectly comic-accurate Scarlet Spider costume–though not the one fans might think. Usually, when someone thinks of ‘Scarlet Spider’, they think of the punky ‘90s blue ripped vest-hoodie with the sideways spider-emblem on the chest over the full-red costume and giant-eyed mask.
The cosplay is jaw-dropping, to be sure, but what’s perhaps even more so is the storytelling potential of the character the cosplayer brought to life. Like Ben Reilly, Kaine Parker is also a clone of Peter Parker, though when he was created, he was left with facial scars and therefore saw himself as an imperfect copy, and an obvious clone. Kaine dealt with a severe identity crisis upon his introduction, which is what led him to become one of the overarching villains of the Clone Saga.
Kaine Parker’s story is one of pain, loss, and redemption, and the specifics of his life chart the makings of a brilliant film. Plus–and perhaps most importantly of all–this cosplay already showed how Scarlet Spider’s costume would look in his very own Spider-Man movie.
