Exactly one year after Scarborough’s Leonard Miller led Fort Erie International to an Ontario high school basketball championship, the NBA prospect returns to the GTA for his first game as a pro with the G League Ignite.
The second game between the Ignite and Wembanyama’s Metropolitans 92 was a bright spot. Miller led the team in scoring with 16 points, on six-of-10 shooting, with nine rebounds.
“That’s my brother. He’s a great person to be around. That’s why I’m around him a lot,” Miller said. “His mindset, mentality and approach toward the game, he’s a pro and he just attacks head on.” Whenever Charles Hantoumakos, Miller’s old high school coach at Fort Erie, gets a call from an NBA scout, he reminds them that Miller has only played two full years of basketball in the last four. A wrist injury cost him one season, and he barely played the year before that at a prep school in Utah.
“If I look at a kid that’s averaging 15 and 10 in the G League, and he just turned 19 … that’s a pretty scary prospect.”
