Report to police board also shows vehicle pursuits involving police declined slightly in 2022.

The fatal shooting is under investigation by Regina city police with oversight from the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team.

The report says use of tactical support and canine teams remained relatively unchanged year-over year, while there has been increased use of the restraint chair, which is meant to limit the movement of a detainee in the police detention unit. The report describes the chair as a “last resort” when there are no other means available to prevent the person from hurting themselves or others.Photo by Screen capture.

In total, 88 adults and 10 youths were arrested at the end of police pursuits. The report says 33 incidents resulted in damage to the vehicle being pursued and one incident resulted in serious injuries. No pursuit-related deaths were reported last year. The number of pursuits in 2022 represents a 32 per cent decline from the five-year high of 112 in 2018.
