A Saskatoon judge has given lawyers until Friday to come up with a 'last ditch' attempt to prevent having an accounting firm take over operations at the Lighthouse Supported Living, Inc.
Court of King’s Bench Justice Allisen Rothery gave lawyers Paul Federoff and Greg Frith until Friday morning to put together a proposed order, after the pair said they believed they could come up with something to allay concerns brought forward by Twila Reddekopp and Jerome Hepfner, two Lighthouse board members who have applied to have the Lighthouse placed in a limited receivership that would see accounting firm MNP LLP take over the non-profit for a limited period of time, with limits on its...
They called for Rothery to allow the Lighthouse membership to elect a replacement board, which could continue to oversee day-to-day operations while MNP delved into the organization’s finances and governance. Federoff and Frith’s initial proposal came unravelled when counsel for Affinity Credit Union, the Lighthouse’s largest creditor, indicated the credit union wouldn’t support anything less than having an outside party take over from the Lighthouse board. Affinity has agreed to provide financing to support the Lighthouse’s operation during the limited receivership, but said it wouldn’t pay to support Federoff and Frith’s plan.
