Councillors call for options to improve stormwater system in light of flooding caused by June storm. yxe yxecc

prompted calls for a re-think of how the city’s stormwater system is maintained.

Through questions from Ward 7 Coun. Mairin Loewen, it emerged that inspections and cleaning of the stormwater system typically occur in response to storms, issues that arise, or resident complaints. Both councillors suggested the current approach to stormwater infrastructure maintenance is reactive, rather than proactive, and called for further reporting on how to make improvements. The committee unanimously passed a motion to have city staff report on a potential expansion of stormwater cleaning work. Ward 1 Coun. Darren Hill was not at the meeting.
