However, NDP advanced education critic Jennifer Bowes said she’s heard potential concerns this bill could allow the government to implement performance-based funding in the future. “The autonomy of our institutions is in other pieces of legislation,” he said. “They were concerned about that and this legislation does not tie funding to any outcomes. The autonomy of the institutions will be protected.”

“We’re always accountable to the public and to government. That doesn’t change,” he said in an interview. “Government trusts us to spend the money we receive in a way that addresses the needs of our students, their readiness as citizens, as successful in their careers.”Article content
