Saskatchewan has adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism, a Monday news release stated.

To some, it may seem a small step, but it’s an important step, according to Regina rabbi Jeremy Parnes. We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc. The “non-legally binding working definition,” as listed on the IHRA website, is as follows: Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.

Jumping to conclusions about someone being racist or antisemitic is “unhelpful,” the rabbi said, noting that he hopes the adoption of the definition makes antisemitism more identifiable and will do so in an “appropriate way.”
