Mayor Ron Nirenberg and other San Antonio musicians featured in Fotoseptiembre show
Rick Cavender, who leads the Rick Cavender Band and is vice president of the Cavender Auto Family, is among the musicians featured in a Fotoseptiembre exhibit.Every so often, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg will pull out his trombone and play a little bit, mostly to see if he still remembers the scales he first learned in sixth grade.“It’s muscle memory,” said Nirenberg, who played through high school and a little bit in college.
“I was talking to my wife and said, wouldn’t it be nice to do an artist project of people with their instruments? We started there,” said Gaude.S.A. artist Chuck Ramirez to be featured at New York Armory Show 12 years after his deathGaude, who runs the studio with him, agreed it sounded great. There was just one issue: “We’ve got to find people to do it,” he said, laughing.
Dominguez herself fits that bill. She’s a violinist who credits playing the instrument with helping to ease the stress and anxiety of the pandemic. And she is in the exhibit, too. Gaude took some images of her so that he could use them to give potential subjects an idea of what he was doing. “Duets” includes an augmented reality element. Viewers can download the free Live Portrait app, open it and point their phones at an image in the exhibit. The app takes them to a video of a performance or an interview with the subject.
“I thought, wow, how magnificent would it be to capture what I do in my daytime profession in a cave that's such a beautiful backdrop,” she said. “And that microphone is a high-quality, functioning mic, not just a prop.”
