SAN ANTONIO - After months of negotiations, the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association have struck a deal on a new collective bargaining contract.

But, while city officials say this deal keeps San Antonio firefighters among the highest paid in the state, the numbers tell a different story. According to figures provided by SAPFA: out of the eight most populated cities in Texas, San Antonio currently ranks sixth in 25-year average salary and is fifth in year one.

Villagomez says this new agreement will cost the city about an extra $27 million that was not previously budgeted. So, that money must come from somewhere.
