San Antonio wants businesses to track their carbon footprints as a step toward mitigating...
First proposed in the SA Tomorrow Sustainability Plan, the city program would require owners of buildings 50,000 square feet and bigger to report and publicly disclose the amount of energy consumed annually.
“This is crazy. This is insane,” Perry said. “I cannot support this to be a mandatory program. No way, shape, or form or fashion.”However, other council members felt the proposal was not radical enough to address the existential threat posed by climate change. The Alamo City is home to approximately 2,100 buildings that would be affected, according to the San Antonio Office of Sustainability. However, exemptions would be made available.
