Salt Lake City officials have submitted a new proposal to make the downtown more inviting to pedestrians. The proposal would turn parts of Main Street into a pr
omenade mall.
The promenade would extend on Main Street from South Temple to 400 South, and from Main Street to West Temple on 100 South. The executive director of the Salt Lake Downtown Alliance, Dee Brewer, said the city’s wide streets and sidewalks could find a new purpose. Block 1, identified as the area from South Temple to 100 South, would be labeled as the “All-Ages Wonderland” district. Nestled between the two sides of City Creek Center, the promenade would feature a “timeless, lush, colorful, sentimental” identity.
