On Tuesday the Florida Department of Transportation announced that safety inspections are underway on the Fuller Warren Bridge for the new pedestrian bridge over the St. Johns River.
This path is to connect pedestrians and bicyclists between the San Marco and Riverside neighborhoods.
We’re told inspectors are verifying that the construction is up to FDOT standards and that the structure is safe to use. FDOT says there is some minor construction that still needs to be completed before the path can open to the public and at this time there is no specific date for when the path will open. FDOT anticipates it opening before the Spring of this year.
Once open, the Fuller Warren Bridge will join the Main Street and the Acosta as the two bridges in Jacksonville where you can walk or bike over the St. Johns River.
