Municipality hopes to get more cash from B.C.’s surplus
Saanich council threw a Hail Mary pass Monday night in the hope of it landing in the arms of the provincial finance minister and turning into a windfall for the district.
Coun. Zac de Vries brought the motion Monday night in light of news that the province is expected to have access to a surplus of about $3.6 billion that needs to be spent before the end of this month. “It’s a bit of a Hail Mary, but we’ve got an opportunity I think to plead our case yet again,” said Murdock. “I think the reality is that the province finds itself in an exceedingly unique position to have a one-time surplus that has greatly exceeded its own expectations.
