The broad-market S&P 500 Wednesday morning was rallying for a third straight session, putting the index on the verge of making a fresh break above a psychologically important level at 2,800. The S&P 500 index SPX, +0.54% was up 0.4% at 2,803.21, at last check, propelled by gains in energy, up 0.8%, and information technology, rising 0.6%, a pair of sectors that has enjoyed a pronounced rally in recent days.
