Despite Ryan Gosling’s lack of box office hits (except for a few gems), the actor is and always will be a movie star, which Barbie will likely prove.

Ryan Gosling became a household name after The Notebook was released in 2004. However, despite his popularity following the hit film based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name, most of Gosling's movies have failed to make over $300 million at the box office. Gosling got his start as a child actor when he appeared in The Mickey Mouse Club at 13 years old.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Ryan Gosling Has Everything A True Movie Star Needs An actor or actress typically obtains movie star status when whatever film they are in, no matter what it is, is a box office success. People will see the feature in theaters just because their name is attached to it. But regardless of his movies' box office numbers, Ryan Gosling possesses everything that any actor needs to be classified as a movie star, physically and mentally.

So now that Gosling meets of the requirements to be a movie star, he just needs a few more box office hits for some to consider him one. Perhaps a Marvel Studios movie is calling his name, or he will join James Gunn's new DC Universe. It doesn't matter all too much, though, because the definition of a movie star is fluid, and in many people's books, Gosling is a star.

Meanwhile, Blade Runner 2049 also received positive reception but was classified as a box office bomb after making $267 million against the film's $150–185 million budget, despite winning a couple of Oscars. It was the same story with the critically acclaimed First Man — the 2018 biographical movie made $105 million at the box office while its budget was $59 million.
