Two groups representing Ukrainians in Canada had written an open letter saying they were 'horrified' by Russia's inclusion during the war.

“At this moment in history, the Russian flag represents genocide, ecocide, war criminality, and death. The Russian tri-colour flag, the Z symbol, and any Soviet symbols are regarded as hate symbols by Ukrainians and conjure the same feelings and associations as the swastika.”

A statement from the City of Surrey’s parks, recreation and culture department read: “Given the current events, the representatives of the Russian pavilion have decided not to participate in the festival this year. For the same reasons, the Russian pavilion did not take part in last year’s Fusion Festival.”Article content
