Royal photographer Tim Rooke explains what it's really like to travel with Kate Middleton and Prince William: 'There’s an understanding that we all have a job to do.' 🔗:

faced a challenging dilemma. He had his camera trained at the Buckingham Palace balcony, taking snapshots ofas he made all of the faces on the emoji keyboard, becoming a viral star of the bank holiday weekend. But Rooke, the Royal Photographer for Rex by Shutterstock, couldn’t catch them all.

He noted that the royals and the photographers who follow them have a “symbiotic” and good-natured relationship. “We need to take pictures, and if we take good pictures—if they allow us to take good pictures—of their charity work, those pictures will get used in the newspapers and magazines, and that promotes the charity,” he said. “If they were all grumpy all the time, then it wouldn’t really work. I think there’s an understanding that we all have a job to do.”By Tim Rooke/Shutterstock.

He has also gotten a chance to get to know other members of the family in a way few ever have. During the Jubilee, he captured another adorable image of Louis sitting in the lap of his grandfather, Prince Charles. “I thought that was nice, because he’s just a granddad, isn’t he?” Rooke said. “You sort of forget that these people are just normal... Well, they’re not normal people obviously. But they’re people, with their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren.”Louis embraces his mother.

Queen Elizabeth makes her final appearance at the Platinum Jubilee at the end of the Platinum Pageant.According to Rooke, the Caribbean tour wasn’t as tense on the ground as it might have seemed in the headlines, and Kate and William did get a positive reaction, especially as they traveled in Jamaica. He explained the story behind one of the more notorious photos from the trip, which showed the couple reaching through a chain link fence to touch the hands of Jamaicans on the other side.
