Bibee said he started to feel the hip tighten when he fielded a routine bouncer back to the mound in the fourth inning by Jonah Heim. After he flipped the ball to first base to end the inning, he started to turn toward the Cleveland dugout and began limping.
“My hip kind of locked up on me on the ball I fielded in the fourth inning and the one that went off my foot in the fifth inning,” said Bibee. “I went down to get it, got up, tossed it and my hip locked up and wouldn’t let go.” “He came off after the fifth inning and James said, ‘He’s feeling it a little in his thigh, but he doesn’t feel it when he’s pitching,’” said manager Terry Francona. “He went back out, but about three pitches before we went out Carl came over and said, ‘We need to go . He felt he was coming off the rubber a little bit different.”Bibee said he had some hip tightness earlier in the season, but not to this extent.
Biebee, in 25 starts this year, is 10-4 with a 2.98 ERA. He’s allowed 47 earned runs and 122 hits in 142 innings. He’s struck out 141 and walked 45.
