If selected, Baber will try to unseat current Liberal MP Ya’ara Saks in the next federal election.
OTTAWA—Former Ontario PC MPP and federal Conservative leadership contender Roman Baber is attempting a political comeback.
“I have a lot more left in me to help Canadians, represent York Centre and steer our country back on the right path,” he said. Baber entered the federal leadership contest a newcomer to federal politics, though he had a national reputation after he was kicked out of Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s caucus in 2021 over his objection to COVID-19 lockdowns.
The Liberals won it back in 2015, but when that MP, Michael Levitt, resigned in 2020, the subsequent byelection saw the Tories come within a whisper of winning it back.
