The newest members of the Houston Sports Hall of Fame aren’t shy on opinions about the former pitcher and Cooperstown as well as the WNBA needing a team in Houston.

Houston Sports Awards Hall of Fame inductees Sheryl Swoopes, Roger Clemens and Clyde Drexler on gather on stage to sing “Let’s Have A Party” with Toby Keith and Hannah Storm at the end of the annual award ceremonies held at the Wortham Theater Center Wednesday, Apr. 20, 2022 in Houston, TX.

“He was the best,” Drexler said. “How are you going to deny a guy with that résumé a spot in Cooperstown? When the Rocket pitched, everybody showed up, and he never disappointed. How do you deny a guy who was that good?”“Whoever is in charge, you have to make that happen,” she said. “It makes no sense. It makes no sense at all.”

After failing to win admission in his first year on the ballot in 2012, Clemens said, “We put the Hall of Fame stuff in the rearview mirror. Of the committee vote in December, when Clemens is likely to be considered along with Barry Bonds and Curt Schilling, who also were denied induction by the writers, he said, “If it happens, great. Thumbs up if it happens who look at facts and deal with it. It’s not going to change me.”
