The family of Roderick Brooks held a candlelight vigil Saturday night, marking one year since he was shot and killed by a Harris County deputy sergeant Garrett Hardin who tried to detain Brooks as a suspected shoplifter.

Sergeant Garret Hardin, an HCSO veteran, spotted Brooks and attempted to stop him. The suspect, however, took off on foot, according to Brown.FOX 26 Reporter Natalie Hee has more on what the family members want following a deadly officer-involved shooting last week. Hardin later caught up with Brooks and told him to "Stop, dude. I'm gonna taze you. Stop! Get on the ground!" Brooks tried to run further from Hardin, and that's when Hardin fired his taser at Brooks.In the video, the sergeant takes Brooks to the ground. Brooks can be heard asking Hardin, "Why are you tazing me?" Brooks is heard asking Hardin, "Please get off me, man?" and is seen attempting to get off the ground.
