Nickelodeon star That Girl Lay Lay, in pink fringe and a cowboy hat, powered through “Stop Playin” despite mic problems. She was joined by a pair of dancers. An unannounced Chamillionaire amped the energy even higher with “Ridin’,” a song he took to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2006. It’s a deceptively joyous anthem for the disenfranchised.
There was grown-folks R&B from Htown ; Frankie J and Baby Bash ; and Letoya Luckett, gorgeous in white, sparking knee high boots and on her elegant hit “Torn.” Luckett and Paul Wall, both celebrating birthdays, were serenaded by the crowd. “This ain’t Versuz, and this ain’t the Super Bowl. This is the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, baby,” Bun said. He was joined onstage by his musical family for a final goodbye, and tears streamed down his face.
