Rockets' nadir easier to swallow if Victor Wembanyama is their lottery prize
Less than a week away. In a few days. Finally, almost within reach for the rebuilding Rockets, who’ve been forced to endure the worst three-year run in franchise history for the hope of wrapping Victor Wembanyama in local red.“Pray for Victor” is a real thing around these parts. And since everyone in The Association has known for more than a year that Wemby is a 100 percent guaranteed lock to be selected No. 1 overall on June 22, that far-away official date is simply a formality.
That last part is only partly true. But when you’re supposedly the greatest basketball talent since someone known as The King, it’s easy for facts to get cast aside in the search for a franchise-changing story.But the Rockets deserve this pick more.Wins were pointless and highly elusive for the third consecutive season. Anyone who knew anything understood that Silas was gone.
