A Rock Island Metra train headed toward Chicago hit a vehicle near Midlothian Tuesday, which led to extensive delays, according to Metra.
Rock Island Metra train No. 400, which was scheduled to arrive at LaSalle Street Station at 5:32 a.m., struck a vehicle halting inbound and outbound trains near Midlothian, according to Metra.One person in the car was injured and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, said Metra spokesman Michael Gillis. No injuries were reported to passengers or crew on the train, he said.
Passengers the train, which departed Joliet at 4:20 a.m., were able to board train No. 402, which arrived at 6:25 a.m. in Chicago. Following the accident, inbound and outbound trains were operating up to 20 minutes behind schedule, according to Metra.But, Metra train No. 302 which was scheduled to depart Tinley Park 80th Avenue at 7:01 a.m., did not operate because of the accident so passengers took another train, according to Metra.
At 7:10 a.m., Metra Rock Island inbound and outbound tracks were restored, according to Metra, though minimal delays near Midlothian were anticipated because of the ongoing investigation.Advertisement
