Richard Vogel didn’t take long to put his name in the Spruce Meadows archive book, winning the $80,000 Cana Cup.
“A big day, a big week in general,” Vogel acknowledged. “I heard a lot about this show, it’s a very famous show all over the world obviously. I’m very excited and last week was already excited to come here. I’m very happy that my horses feel very good and confident in the ring. It’s not fences we in Europe have every week in the shows. It’s kind of unique I would say. I’m very glad my horses feel super and jumped very good for me.
“Our first show together was exactly one year ago,” he noted. “In that one year, we’ve had good shows and great results. We grew together very well. We know each other quite good now, I would say. I think he’s quite special. His stride and his scope are very unique and you can never really compare him with other horses.
Born into a horse family, Vogel quit school and embarked on his riding career at the age of 17. At 19, he began working for Ludger Beerbaum and did that for two years, before starting his own business.
