Rey's Star Wars movie will be centered around an important Luke Skywalker moment, one that never even happened in the sequel trilogy. According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, this moment is the "core" of the New Jedi Order movie that will shape the next chapter of Rey's story. However, this moment between Rey and Luke never appeared on-screen, or in any other Star Wars media.

This would expand the possibilities for Rey's story as she struggles to pick up where Luke left off in rebuilding the Jedi in the aftermath of another galactic war.
Rey Never Made A Promise To Luke Skywalker In The Sequel Trilogy Rey's New Jedi Order movie will build on a promise that Rey made to Luke, but she never made any promises in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Rey and Luke were still at odds on bringing back the order when they parted ways in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and while Luke had changed his mind in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey never mentioned anything about bringing back the Jedi.
However, a flashback is unlikely, as Mark Hamill doesn't expect to return in New Jedi Order. Perhaps Rey will simply tell one of her students that she made Luke a promise, or she could attempt to reach Luke's spirit and affirm the promise she made to him. Whatever form the promise takes or when Rey made it, the New Jedi Order movie must provide an answer.
