The fire was mostly contained to the exterior of the building
An exterior fire set off sprinklers in a Nanaimo condo building Saturday morning, flooding more than a dozen units.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Stuart Kenning said the fire at 650 Prideaux St., which resulted in 15 units being flooded, was mostly contained to the exterior of the building. The fire was reported to first responders at 6:55 a.m. and was “quickly” extinguished by the four crews that attended, he said, adding that it was mainly the smoke that had set off the sprinkler system.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said. “I cannot say it was a dumpster but it did originate outside.”
