A 14-foot great white shark has made history after swimming from South Carolina to Mexico, stopping off the Texas coastline in the process.
A great white shark spotted off the Texas coastline has made history. The 14-foot animal, named LeeBeth, has gained quite the audience since being tagged in South Carolina more than three months ago. Late last month, the 2,600-pound female swam along the Texas coast, from the shores around Galveston down to a couple hundred yards off South Padre Island.
The camera, inserted near the base of the dorsal fin, let researchers come along for the swim until it detached several days later. Since then, Outcast Sport Fishing has continued to document LeeBeth’s travels, mapping out where she pings and posting it to their Facebook page. “It’s been wild watching this,” the account wrote. “I had no idea these sharks were swimming all the way to Mexico.
